Program
Day 1
You’ll travel to Nieuw Nickerie through the heart of Nickerie, enjoying panoramic views of vast rice fields that blend seamlessly into the landscape – a picturesque blend of Indonesian and Dutch influences. On arrival, you’ll explore the new sea dyke and be greeted by an enchanting sunset that colours the horizon. Along the way, you’ll stop off in historic Groningen, where Dutch farmers settled some 150 years ago and where stories from the past can still be felt. The journey continues to Wageningen, once the bustling centre of rice cultivation, where history is still very much alive. This day offers you a rich combination of history, enchanting landscapes and cultural discoveries.
Day 2
You are about to embark on an enchanting exploration of Bigi Pan, home to more than 120 species of bird. Aboard a dugout canoe, you’ll be carried along winding creeks, past lush mangrove forests and through vast marshlands. The nature reserve reveals its full splendour whilst you enjoy a veritable symphony of birdsong. At around 15:00, the return journey to Paramaribo begins; after a trip full of discoveries and wonder, you’ll arrive there some three hours later, filled with a sense of natural beauty and enchantment.
