Activities
Discover the highlights of Kourou and the surrounding area with a varied range of activities. You can explore the charming village of Iracoubo, take a guided tour of Kourou’s main attractions and enjoy a catamaran adventure to the Iles du Salut. There, a fascinating experience awaits, with visits to historic prison cells and a former hospital. You can also visit La Chapelle, an impressive church, and explore the museum on Île Royale, where you can also swim in crystal-clear waters. For space enthusiasts, the ESA Space Centre offers a unique insight into space exploration, including a visit to the Jupiter Control Room and a guided bus tour of the CNES site (available in French only).

Program
Day 1
You will depart from Paramaribo at 7.00 am, heading for Albina, where you will take the ferry across to the French town of St Laurent. After a picturesque 2½-hour drive, you’ll reach Kourou, which you’ll explore in more detail during a city tour in the afternoon. The evening is entirely at your leisure for exploring on your own, after which you’ll spend the night in Kourou.
Day 2
You’ll set off at 7.30 am for the Îles du Salut, also known as Devil’s Island, an idyllic island surrounded by palm trees and lush vegetation. Here, you’ll explore the historic paths leading to the former prison complex, the hospital and the church. The island also offers you the chance to enjoy azure-blue swimming spots, a restaurant and a souvenir shop. After a day full of discoveries, you’ll return by catamaran to Kourou, where you can enjoy the serene atmosphere. Make sure you bring your swimwear for this day.
Day 3
After breakfast, you will explore the renowned ESA launch site in Kourou. You’ll take an in-depth tour of this fascinating site, visiting, amongst other things, the Jupiter control room – the centre from which the Ariane rockets are launched. After lunch, you’ll set off for St Laurent, before heading back to Albina and finally returning to Paramaribo.
