Program
Day 1
Your Palumeu adventure in Suriname begins with a picturesque flight from Zorg en Hoop, the local airport, to the enchanting airstrip near the Palumeu indigenous village. Upon arrival, you will receive a warm welcome at the Palumeu resort, surrounded by the Trio and Wajana communities. A relaxed picnic lunch on the beautiful Palawa Island is followed by a refreshing swim in the river. Afterwards, our guide will take you on a fascinating exploration of the indigenous village, where you’ll discover the vibrant traditions and crafts of these ancient Amazonian inhabitants. The eco-friendly resort, with its traditionally built jungle lodges and sustainable energy sources, offers you comfort and authenticity. The day concludes with an evening of stories about the lush flora and fauna and the ancient indigenous cultures.
Day 2
You’ll be woken by the natural sounds of the howler monkeys at the Palumeu Resort. After a delicious breakfast, a dugout canoe will take you to the starting point for an adventurous hike up the granite hill known as Potihill. Along the way, you’ll travel down the Tapanahony River and, accompanied by our expert guide, explore the jungle’s diverse flora and fauna. The climb up Potihill is rewarded with a breathtaking view over the jungle. After lunch, there’s an archery lesson, followed by an evening spent listening to fascinating stories about the history and unique ways of life of the local indigenous people.
Day 3
The day begins early with a peaceful boat trip downstream at dawn, during which you can experience the jungle waking up in silence. After breakfast, you’ll travel by dugout canoe to the Mabuka Falls, where a day of relaxation awaits. You can swim in the river, let the waterfall massage you, or relax in a hammock. For adventurers, the tour offers a jungle walk with commentary on the various trees, plants and animals of the jungle. A tasty barbecue is served for lunch, after which a night-time river trip with your guide rounds off the day, allowing you to enjoy the enchanting sounds of the jungle.
Day 4
Your final morning at the Palumeu Resort begins with a leisurely stroll through the village, where you can buy traditional handmade souvenirs. After lunch, it’s time to bid farewell to these enchanting surroundings and return to Paramaribo, where your unforgettable experience in Palumeu comes to an end.
