After leaving the city and heading towards Brownsberg in the Brokopondo district, you will stop off at Paranam after about an hour’s drive, where you will visit the bauxite refinery. During this break, you’ll enjoy a delicious cup of coffee or tea with a tasty snack, whilst learning more about the history of bauxite in Suriname since the early 1900s. On arrival at the plateau at the top of the mountain, at an altitude of around 500 metres, you can enjoy fresh fruit and a refreshing drink whilst taking in the stunning views over the Van Blommenstein Reservoir and the surrounding countryside. Our experienced guide will then lead you on a fascinating forest walk to the enchanting waterfalls in the Surinamese interior, where many choose to relax and cool off beneath the falls. After this refreshing experience, you’ll climb back up to the Brownsberg plateau for a tasty lunch. In the late afternoon, you’ll set off for Ston Island, a peninsula on the reservoir, where simple cottages with beds and mosquito nets await you. In the evening, you’ll enjoy a delicious meal under a beautiful starry sky.
