Program

Day 1
You’ll set off in the morning at the agreed time from Paramaribo city centre. After a journey of around 3.5 hours, you’ll reach Atjoni, where you’ll board a dugout canoe for a further 3.5-hour boat trip. On arrival at the resort, you can explore the surroundings and enjoy a refreshing dip in the river. After dinner and some pleasant conversation or games around the table, you’ll rest in one of the wooden lodges, fitted with mosquito nets.
Day 2
After breakfast, you’ll travel by dugout canoe to Djumu, where, accompanied by your guide, you’ll explore the village and go on an extensive walk through the forest. Along the way, you’ll learn about the fascinating flora and fauna around you. You can go on a hike to the Ananas Mountains, a trek of around two hours through the jungle. Wild pineapples still grow on the 219-metre-high mountain, which you can only see during the right season. After this strenuous walk, you’ll enjoy a relaxing boat trip to the Tapawatra rapids, situated at the confluence of the Gran and Piking Rio rivers.
Day 3
After breakfast, you can relax at the resort. We’ll set off by dugout canoe to the village of Semoisi or Massiah for an in-depth visit. Depending on the day’s activities, you’ll gain a good insight into the way of life, customs and traditions of the local people. In the afternoon, enjoy a refreshing swim in the river and visit a small plot of land. In the evening, with a bit of luck, you might spot caimans on the river.
Day 4
You’ll set off at half past five in the morning for the coffee tour. During the boat trip, you’ll enjoy a cup of coffee or tea whilst watching the early morning hustle and bustle of the local residents along the river and spotting birds. After breakfast, you’ll have time to relax, after which you’ll travel by dugout canoe to Pikinslee to visit the Maroon Museum. You’ll then return to Paramaribo by dugout canoe and bus.
