Program
Day 1
The Plantation Tour sets off at 9.00 am from Leonsbergsteiger and offers you a fascinating exploration of the historic Commewijne district. You’ll first visit the 17th-century Fort Nieuw Amsterdam, an open-air museum steeped in history. We’ll then sail to the Rust en Werk plantation, where, depending on the tide, you can explore the beautiful creek. You will then be given a guided tour of the restored Frederiksdorp plantation. After these discoveries, you’ll enjoy a delicious lunch with a local plantation resident in Johanna-Margaretha, where you’ll experience the warm hospitality of the region. The return journey begins at 3.00 pm and offers you the chance to spot dolphins at the confluence of the Commewijne and Suriname rivers.
