At 08.00, we set off from Torarica Resort towards Domburg. On the way, you’ll get a glimpse of the Staatsolie Refinery during a photo stop. Upon arrival at the Waterkant in Domburg, you’ll board a boat for a trip to Plantage Laarwijk.Upon arrival, the guided tour begins, led by a local guide. You’ll walk past historic sites and farmland, learning more about the plantation’s rich history and how the landscape and local life have changed over the years. You’ll then learn about traditional farming methods and discover various local fruit varieties, plants and crops. The guide will tell you about their uses and cultivation methods. During a hands-on harvesting demonstration, you’ll gain an insight into local farming life. Afterwards, you’ll contribute to a greener future by taking part in the Plant-a-Tree project, followed by a leisurely walk through the countryside where you’ll learn more about the local flora.After the morning’s activities, you’ll enjoy a tasty, traditional Surinamese lunch, prepared by a local resident of the plantation. After lunch, you’ll have free time to explore Laarwijk at your own pace. You can go kayaking, cycle around the plantation, go fishing or relax in a hammock whilst enjoying the peace and quiet of the countryside. In between, you can enjoy freshly baked Surinamese snacks with a refreshing local drink. You’ll then return by boat to Domburg and on to Torarica Resort by car, taking with you lovely memories of an authentic day at Laarwijk Plantation.
