Program
Day 1
You’ll travel by bus or car to the south of Suriname, past the former Suralco bauxite plant and the Brokopondo area. After a picturesque drive, you’ll reach Atjoni, where you’ll transfer to a korjaal boat. The three- to four-hour journey takes you to Apiapaati, where you’ll be welcomed by your guide’s family for dinner under the starry sky. The evening concludes with jungle walks or relaxing around the campfire.
Day 2
You’ll start the day amidst the rapids with a hearty breakfast. You’ll then sail to the Djumu medical post and climb Pineapple Mountain for a breathtaking view. You’ll then head through the village to the Tapawatra waterfall, where you can swim and enjoy some adventurous water activities. You’ll round off the day with a cosy evening on Apiapaati.
Day 3
After a hearty breakfast, you’ll explore various villages and meet the local Maroons. You’ll then visit the impressive Tapawatra waterfall and the Gran Dan rapids, where you can enjoy some thrilling water tubing. The day ends on a relaxing note by the campfire, where you can opt for additional jungle or boat trips.
Day 4
You’ll start the day with a final morning swim amongst the rapids on the island – a fitting farewell to this special place. You’ll then set off for Paramaribo in the late morning and enjoy a quicker return journey downstream with minimal stops along the way.
