Discover the spectacular Blanche Marie waterfalls on this four-day expedition deep into the Amazon rainforest. Travelling by 4x4 off-road vehicle, you’ll cover more than 300 km from Paramaribo to one of Suriname’s largest waterfalls, surrounded by unspoilt jungle. Visit the authentic indigenous village of Apoera and explore the surrounding area via beautiful walking trails, including the route to the Massage Waterfalls. Along the way, you’ll encounter the rainforest’s rich biodiversity, with eight species of monkey and over 200 species of bird. An unforgettable adventure for nature lovers.

Activities
This tour takes you to the indigenous village of Apoera and the historic railway line, after which you will explore the surrounding area, including the stunning Massage Waterfalls. Along the way, you will discover the rich biodiversity of the Amazon rainforest with its characteristic Surinamese monkey and bird species. The excursion begins with a drive towards Zanderij, passing through traditional indigenous villages and Maroon villages such as Witagron, and offers you plenty of opportunities to spot a variety of animals.

Program
Day 1
You will be collected from your accommodation in the morning and the tour begins with a drive to Zanderij. Along the way, there are optional stops for photos and refreshments, during which you’ll have the chance to spot various animals such as monkeys, sloths, deer, tortoises, monitor lizards and birds, including parrots, macaws, trumpeter birds and powisies. After Zanderij, we’ll pass several indigenous villages on the way to Witagron, a Maroon village where we’ll stop for a visit and lunch. This is followed by the second leg of the journey, through creeks and over bridges, straight through the jungle to the Blanche Marie Falls. On arrival, you can explore the surroundings, go for a swim and enjoy your evening meal.
Day 2
You’ll start the day with breakfast between 8 and 9 o’clock in the morning, after which you’ll follow a forest path to the waterfalls. Along the way, you’ll learn about the local flora and fauna and experience the fast-flowing river. On arrival at the waterfalls, there are several spots where you can sit beneath the cascading spring water and enjoy this natural spectacle. The natural hot tubs offer you a relaxing massage. Around 1 pm, you’ll return to the lodge for lunch. You’ll spend the afternoon at the Massage Waterfalls, where you can also go fishing.
Day 3
After breakfast, we’ll travel to Apoera, where you’ll settle into our lodge. This will be followed by a sightseeing tour of the town. In the afternoon, we’ll visit the fascinating "nowhere to nowhere" railway line and continue our journey to the indigenous villages of Kleine Kwamalasemoetoe and Washabo. Here you’ll discover the rich culture of the Trio and Arawak peoples, two distinct indigenous tribes, and have the opportunity to buy authentic souvenirs. After dinner, you’ll round off the day with a cosy get-together.
Day 4
After a delicious breakfast, you’ll return to Paramaribo. You’ll bid farewell to the stunning Blanche Marie Waterfalls and set off on your return journey. Along the way, you’ll enjoy the lush greenery of the rainforest and the enchanting natural beauty of this region.
