Brokopondo - 1 Day

In the 1960s, approximately 1560 square km of tropical rain forest was placed under water for the energy supply of bauxite processing. This tour focuses on sailing and admiring this lake. You make a cruise on the lake where whimsical petrified tree trunks protrude above the water and you enjoy the beautiful view of the hilly area of Brownsberg.

Without cruise: € 70 per person (transport, guide, meal, drinks, snacks & fruit)

Day 1

At 8 a.m. in the morning we leave Paramaribo via the fully paved road to Brownsweg. During the outward journey we will stop for a wonderful holiday breakfast. On Brownsweg you will be richly explained what you can see here, namely the transmigration villages. The villages that used to lie in the artificial reservoir. You will look your eyes and see how the Maroon lives. After this we continue our journey to the Dam and then to our final location: Ston Island. This beautiful peninsula on the Brokopondo Reservoir is one of the most highly regarded resorts in Suriname. Fascinating and typical of the reservoir are the stumps that are still standing proudly. The tropical wood does not rot under water because no oxygen can reach it. With a minimum of 4 people on the program, a motorized cruise per canoe is on the program. On this tour you can also catch beautiful fish such as Toucanis or Piranhas. In the afternoon you will be served a delicious Surinamese meal and there will be plenty of time for a nice swim and relax. In the early evening we go back to Paramaribo.
