The day begins with a drive from Paramaribo to the dam. On the way, the guide will tell you about the area you are passing through: the local population and economic activities such as gold mining, timber exports, quarrying and tourism. At Afobakka, the canoes are launched and you’ll paddle past the dam to take photos of this impressive engineering feat. You’ll then paddle around a few small islands and explore the surroundings at your leisure. As you paddle amongst the dead trees, you’ll be able to observe birds up close. After a relaxing trip, you’ll stop on one of the islands, where you can choose between fishing for piranhas, swimming in the lake or relaxing in a hammock. Fishing tackle, a packed lunch and hammocks are provided. You’ll enjoy lunch together on the island. Afterwards, you’ll return to the end point and drive back to Paramaribo.
