Program
Day 1
You’ll set off from Paramaribo in the morning, heading west towards Nieuw-Nickerie, where you’ll transfer to a boat that will take you into the vast marshlands of Bigi Pan. Upon arrival, you’ll settle into the simple lodge, where you’ll spend the night in a hammock right in the middle of the water. The afternoon is entirely yours to relax, go birdwatching or simply enjoy the peace and quiet. At the end of the day, you’ll go on a sunset tour, during which Bigi Pan comes to life in the beautiful evening light.
Day 2
After breakfast, you will leave Bigi Pan by boat and set off for Maratakka. On the way, you’ll see how the landscape gradually changes from open marshland to lush stretches of forest. In the afternoon, you’ll arrive in Maratakka, where you’ll meet the local community and settle into the simple lodge with hammocks.
Day 3
In the morning, you’ll take a boat trip through the tranquil creeks of Maratakka, where you can spot birds, monkeys and other animals. In the afternoon, you’ll go on a guided forest walk, during which you’ll learn more about the plants, trees and wildlife in the forest.
Day 4
The morning is entirely yours to relax, enjoy the surroundings or pack your things at your leisure. After lunch, you will return to Paramaribo.
