Overview

Brownsberg, a nature park a few hours' drive from Paramaribo, offers a day full of discoveries in 12,000 hectares of rainforest. During a tour you will experience enchanting waterfalls, loud monkey cries and breathtaking views of the tropical rainforest and Brokopondo reservoir. Spend the night on the mountain with beautiful views of the surroundings. The climb to the Mazaroni plateau at an altitude of 500 meters reveals a unique panorama of the mountain range and the reservoir, like a vivid painting of green tones.

Activities

On this tour you will explore the jungle trails and waterfalls, spot animals, learn about the environment and biodiversity, and have the chance to shower under the waterfalls, especially at Leoval and Ireneval. You will also visit the Mazaroni plateau for beautiful views of the rainforest and the reservoir. Adventurous walks to the Koemboe or Mazaronieval are on the program, rewarded with a refreshing dip in the cool creek water or under the waterfalls.

Brownsberg, Reservoir

Program

Day 1
When leaving the city towards Brownsberg in the Brokopondo district, we make a stop at Paranam (the bauxite refinery) after about an hour's drive. During this break you will be spoiled with delicious coffee or tea and a delicious snack. We'll take this opportunity to share some information about the bauxite industry in Suriname since the early 1900s. Arriving at the plateau at the top of the mountain (about 500 meters high), you can enjoy some fruit and a refreshing drink enjoy the beautiful views that Brownsberg offers, including the Van Blommenstein Reservoir. Then our experienced guide will take you for an interesting walk through the interior of Suriname to the idyllic waterfalls at a lower level. We then return uphill to the Brownsberg plateau to enjoy a hot lunch. At night you will be surrounded by the serene sounds of nature as you spend the night at the top of the mountain.
Day 2
When you wake up in the morning in nature, you will be greeted by the roar of howler monkeys and the cheerful whistle of various birds. Between 6:00 AM and 6:30 AM you can enjoy a beautiful sunrise. After breakfast it is possible to take a walk to one of the other waterfalls or take a circular walk on top of the plateau to spot wildlife and learn more about the flora and fauna. After lunch we leave for Paramaribo and expect to be back around 6 p.m.
