This five-day tour offers breathtaking walks to spectacular waterfalls on Brownsberg, followed by relaxation on Stone Island, where you can enjoy swimming, kayaking, sunbathing and fishing. You’ll explore the rich culture of the Saramaccans through village walks and visits to Gunsi and Nieuw Aurora/Laduani, after which the tour concludes with a serene experience at the Ferulasi rapids.

Program
Day 1
You will set off from Paramaribo at 08.00 for Brownsberg. Upon arrival at the mountain, you will take a walk to the northern viewpoint, after which you will embark on a strenuous hike to the Leo and Irene waterfalls. You will spend the night at Brownsberg.
Day 2
You’ll start the day with an early morning walk and enjoy the sunrise, followed by breakfast. You’ll then set off for Stone Island, where you’ll take a boat trip on the reservoir with the chance to catch piranhas. You’ll have the chance to go for a swim, and on request you can also go kayaking, sunbathe and fish. The day ends with a cosy campfire.
Day 3
After breakfast, you’ll take a short walk through the woods before getting ready to set off for Atjonie boat harbour. From there, you’ll board a korjaal with an outboard motor for a pleasant half-hour boat trip to the village of Jaw Jaw. Upon arrival, you are free to spend the rest of the afternoon as you wish. Many guests choose to relax by the stunning Jaw Jaw rapids, which flow right past your accommodation. In the evening, you’ll go caiman spotting.
Day 4
After breakfast, you’ll go for a walk through the rainforest and learn about the culture of the Saramaccans during a village tour. This people preserve African traditions of fishing, hunting, boat-building and natural medicine in the Surinamese jungle. After lunch, you’ll visit the more remote village of Gunsi and walk from there to the village of Nieuw Aurora, also known as Laduani. From Laduani, you’ll travel by boat to the Ferulasi rapids, where you can fully enjoy the natural surroundings. In the late afternoon, you’ll return to Jaw Jaw, where you’ll attend a cultural show in the evening.
Day 5
After taking a moment to enjoy the stunning surroundings, you will return to Paramaribo.
