Program

Day 1
You will depart from the local Zorg & Hoop airport in Paramaribo for the Kajana airstrip, a flight of approximately 55 minutes southwards. On arrival, the lodge staff will escort you to the dugout canoe, which will take you across the Gran Rio to Awarradam Island, situated at the foot of the rapids of the same name. After checking in and getting to know the friendly Maroon staff, you’ll enjoy a delicious lunch. The afternoon offers you the chance to explore the resort and relax by the rapids, where you’ll immediately experience the lodge’s eco-friendly approach. The traditionally built jungle lodge features comfortable rooms with mosquito nets, solar-powered lighting and meals prepared over a wood fire using authentic Surinamese ingredients. In the afternoon, we’ll visit the beautiful Peti rapids, where you can enjoy a natural water massage and learn more about this unique area.
Day 2
Early in the morning, you’ll glide quietly down the river by boat to experience the jungle as it awakens. After breakfast, you’ll go on an informative and adventurous jungle walk, during which the guide will tell you all about the trees and plants and how to recognise animals by their calls and tracks. After lunch, you’ll return to the "Peti" rapids, where you can spend the whole afternoon swimming, paddling and enjoying the stunning views from a hammock. After dinner, the guide will share even more fascinating information about the unique flora and fauna of the Amazon rainforest.
Day 3
Before sunrise, you’ll walk through the primary rainforest to the riverbank, where you’ll set off upstream. With the engine switched off, you’ll drift with the current, enjoying the sounds of the jungle and the rich wildlife. On your return to the lodge, you’ll have breakfast and then have the morning free until lunch to explore the lodge and the nearby rapids, or to relax in the traditional Jungle Spa on the island. After lunch, you’ll visit the local community and learn about the local culture. During the boat trip, you’ll see daily life along the river, from fishing to washing clothes. A walk through various villages will give you an insight into the lives of the Maroon people, and at sunset you’ll sail back to Awarradam.
Day 4
Early in the morning, you’ll take another short boat trip down the river to experience the jungle waking up in complete tranquillity. After breakfast, you’ll have the chance to go paddling again, have a swim or simply enjoy the sounds of the jungle. Before you leave, the staff will bid you farewell in the traditional manner, after which a dugout canoe will take you back to Kajana. From there, you’ll fly back to Paramaribo.
