Overview

Apiapaati, an enchanting island in Upper Suriname, offers an unforgettable experience. Starting with a scenic journey by canoe through the idyllic surroundings, day one welcomes you with dinner under the stars. Day two takes you on a discovery tour to medical posts, villages and the Pineapple Mountain, followed by refreshing dives at the Tapawatra waterfall. Day three offers a deeper introduction to the locals and exciting adventures, including a water tube experience in the Gran Dan rapids. On day four you say goodbye and return to Paramaribo, enjoying the downstream journey by canoe boat.

Activities

The Apiapaati tour offers a plethora of activities, such as climbing Pineapple Mountain for breathtaking views, explorations through various villages, encounters with local Maroons and exciting water adventures at Tapawatra waterfall and Gran Dan rapids. This adventurous trip also includes water tubing, jungle trekking and relaxation around the campfire on the enchanting island of Apiapaati.

Program

Day 1
You travel to the south of Suriname by bus or car, past the old Suralco bauxite factory and the Brokopondo area. After a picturesque ride you reach Atjoni, where you transfer to a canoe boat. A 3 to 4 hour trip will take you to Apiapaati, where you will be welcomed by the guide's family for dinner under the stars. Evening activities include jungle treks or relaxation around the campfire.
Day 2
Wake up amidst rapids and start the day with a hearty breakfast. Sail to the Djumu medical post and climb the Ananasberg for a breathtaking view. Continue via the village to Tapawatra waterfall for swimming and water adventure activities. End the day with a pleasant evening at Apiapaati.
Day 3
After a hearty breakfast you will explore several villages, meet the local Maroons and visit the Tapawatra waterfall and the Gran Dan rapids. Enjoy water tubing in the wild rapids and relax by the campfire in the evening with the option of jungle or boat trips.
Day 4
For the 4-day variant we do a final morning dive between the rapids on the island that marks our farewell. You'll depart for Paramaribo in the late morning, enjoying a faster journey downstream without many stops.
