PART 1
Day 1: Arrival in Paramaribo
Your flight to Paramaribo departs from Schiphol. On arrival, a guide will be on hand to escort you to Hotel Queens, where you will be staying for the first two nights.Day 2: Sightseeing tour of Paramaribo
Today we’ll take a walking tour of Paramaribo, exploring highlights such as the Chinese market, the wooden basilica/cathedral and other places of interest. Our expert guide will tell you all about these places. The afternoon is free to spend as you wish, ideal for relaxing by the hotel swimming pool or exploring the city further. Breakfast is included today.Day 3: Adventure on Fredberg
After a brief discussion of the programme and a cup of coffee or tea, it’s time to set off. You’ll get into the car and head for the unspoilt jungle; depending on the number of stops along the way, the journey will take around 4 hours. You’ll first arrive at base camp, where you’ll have time for a quick swim and a bite to eat. Put on your jungle gear, as it’s time to conquer Fredberg. You’ll hike for around 3 to 4 hours through the unspoilt jungle before reaching the summit. It’s a trek that anyone of average fitness can manage. Once at the top of the mountain, it’s pure enjoyment. The view is stunning, and with a shower and kitchen, all the necessary facilities for a good night’s sleep are provided. Enjoy the sunset and the starry sky in this special spot before you go to sleep. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included today.Day 4: Stunning sunrise
Jump out of your hammock early today for one of the most beautiful sunrises in Suriname. From up above, you’ll see the jungle awaken, as it were, with the sound of howler monkeys and magnificent birds such as macaws flying past. The cook will prepare a hearty breakfast to ensure you start the day with plenty of energy. Today you’ll explore the jungle even further and sleep in true ‘back to basics’ style in caves in the jungle behind the Fredberg. The guide will take you via the other side of the mountain towards the rare orange rock cocks, and you might even spot various species of monkey along the way. You’ll learn about different plant species and how to survive in the jungle. You’ll sleep in a makeshift camp in your hammock inside a cave.
PART 2
Day 5: Back to base camp
After an exciting night, it’s time for another short walk through the jungle. After the jungle trek, you’ll return to base camp, where it’s time to relax. A hearty lunch awaits, complete with ice-cold drinks. Tonight you’ll sleep in a comfortable bed and won’t need your hammock any more. You can go fishing or boating, and when the water is high, you can even dive into the water on a proper Tarzan swing. In the evening, you’ll head out again with a guide to spot nocturnal animals. Evenings often end around the campfire.Day 6: Back to Paramaribo
If you haven’t had enough of the jungle yet, you can head out again with your guide to see more animals. If you’d rather just enjoy a swim and some sunbathing on the last day, there’s certainly time for that. After lunch, it’s time to pack your things and drive back to Paramaribo.Day 7: Free day in Paramaribo
Today you have a free day in Paramaribo to spend as you wish. Breakfast is included today.Day 8: Commewijne tour
We set off at 9.00 am from Leonsberg/Marine Trap. We’ll visit Fort Nieuw Amsterdam, a 17th-century fort with a rich history. After the guided tour, we’ll sail to the Rust en Werk plantation. Depending on the tide, we’ll explore the Rust en Werk creek and visit the plantation. Breakfast and lunch are included today.
PART 3
Day 9: Peperpot Plantation
Peperpot Nature Park, situated on the Suriname River outside Paramaribo, was a coffee and cocoa plantation for centuries and is now a protected nature reserve. Managed by a foundation, the park, which covers over 820 hectares, preserves its biodiversity. With over 270 species of birds and six of Suriname’s eight feline species, this is an internationally renowned spot for birdwatching. It is also home to monkeys, unusual insects, giant anteaters and butterflies. Breakfast and lunch are included today.Day 10: Brownsberg – Ston Island
The journey from Paramaribo to Brownsberg is by bus. From the Mazaroni Plateau on Brownsberg, you’ll enjoy a magnificent view of the reservoir, followed by a walk to the Leo and/or Irene Falls, surrounded by stunning natural scenery. In the afternoon, you’ll travel to Ston Island for the night. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included today.Day 11: Ston Island – Jaw Jaw
After a boat trip on the reservoir with stops at waterfalls, you can enjoy various activities such as fishing, kayaking, swimming and relaxing. The journey then continues to Jaw Jaw by dugout canoe from Atjonie, where you can spend the afternoon as you wish. You can relax by the stunning Jaw Jaw rapids near your accommodation. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included today.Day 12: Jaw Jaw
A morning walk through the rainforest and a village tour will introduce you to Saramaccan culture and its traditional activities. After lunch, you’ll visit the village of Gunsi and take a walk to Nieuw Aurora/Laduani, followed by a boat trip to the Ferulasi rapids. Back in Jaw Jaw, you can enjoy a full-length cultural show. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included today.
PART 4
Day 13: Jaw Jaw – Paramaribo
After enjoying the beautiful surroundings, it’s time to return to Paramaribo. Breakfast and lunch are included.Day 14: Free day in Paramaribo
Today you are free to spend the day as you wish; breakfast is included.Day 15: Free day and transfer to Zanderij
Enjoy a little more time in Paramaribo – perhaps buy some souvenirs or relax by the water’s edge or by the pool before you leave. After midday, the coach will take you to the airport for your overnight flight to the Netherlands. Breakfast is included.Day 16: Home
