PART 1
Day 1: Arrival in Paramaribo
Your flight departs from Schiphol to Paramaribo. On arrival, a guide will take you to Hotel Queens, where you will stay for the first two nights.
Day 2: Exploratory tour through Paramaribo
You’ll go on a walking tour of Paramaribo and visit highlights such as the Chinese market, the wooden basilica and other places of interest. Your expert guide will tell you all about these places. The afternoon is free, so you can relax by the hotel swimming pool or explore the city further. Breakfast is included.
Day 3: Adventure on Fredberg
After a brief briefing on the programme and a cup of coffee or tea, you’ll set off by car for the unspoilt jungle. The journey takes around four hours, depending on the number of stops along the way. At base camp, you’ll have time to swim and eat. Afterwards, you’ll change into your jungle gear for the climb up Fredberg. The walk through the unspoilt jungle takes three to four hours and is manageable for anyone of average fitness. At the summit, you’ll enjoy a magnificent view. The mountain has showers and a kitchen. You’ll spend the night here and enjoy the sunset and the starry sky. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included.
Day 4: Beautiful sunrise
You’ll get up early to witness one of the most beautiful sunrises in Suriname. From the summit, you’ll watch the jungle come to life, whilst listening to howler monkeys and watching birds such as macaws fly past. After a hearty breakfast, you’ll explore the jungle further and spend the night back to basics in a cave behind the Fredberg. Your guide will lead you down the other side of the mountain and show you, amongst other things, rare orange rock partridges and various species of monkey. You’ll learn about different plant species and survival techniques in the jungle. You’ll spend the night in your hammock in a makeshift camp in the cave.
PART 2
Day 5: Back to base camp
After an exciting night, you’ll walk a little further through the jungle before returning to base camp. Here you can relax and enjoy a hearty lunch with ice-cold drinks. In the evening, you’ll sleep in a comfortable bed. During the day, you can choose to go fishing, go boating or, at high tide, dive into the water on a Tarzan swing. In the evening, you’ll set off with a guide to spot nocturnal animals. Evenings often end around the campfire.
Day 6: Back to Paramaribo
You can choose to head back into the jungle with your guide to see more animals, or you may prefer a relaxing day spent swimming and sunbathing. After lunch, you’ll pack your things and drive back to Paramaribo.
Day 7: Free day in Paramaribo
You have a day off in Paramaribo to spend as you wish. Breakfast is included today.
Day 8: Commewijne tour
The tour departs at 9.00 am from Leonsberg/Marine Trap. You will visit Fort Nieuw Amsterdam, a 17th-century fort with a rich history. After the guided tour, you’ll sail to the Rust en Werk plantation. Depending on the tide, you’ll explore the Rust en Werk creek and visit the plantation. Breakfast and lunch are included today.
PART 3
Day 9: Peperpot Plantation
Peperpot Nature Park is situated on the Suriname River outside Paramaribo and was a coffee and cocoa plantation for centuries. The park is now a protected nature reserve covering over 820 hectares, managed by a foundation to preserve its biodiversity. With more than 270 species of birds and six of Suriname’s eight species of felines, this is an internationally renowned destination for birdwatchers. The park is also home to monkeys, unusual insects, giant anteaters and butterflies. Breakfast and lunch are included today.
Day 10: Brownsberg – Ston Island
You’ll travel by bus from Paramaribo to Brownsberg. From the Mazaroni Plateau, you’ll enjoy a stunning view of the reservoir, followed by a walk to the Leo and/or Irene Falls, surrounded by beautiful natural scenery. In the afternoon, you’ll travel to Ston Island for the night. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included today.
Day 11: Ston Island - Jaw Jaw
After a boat trip on the reservoir, with stops at waterfalls, you can enjoy various activities such as fishing, kayaking and swimming. You will then travel by dugout canoe from Atjonie to Jaw Jaw, where you can spend the afternoon as you wish. You can relax by the stunning Jaw Jaw rapids near your accommodation. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included today.
Day 12: Jaw Jaw
A morning walk through the rainforest and a stroll through the village will introduce you to Saramaccan culture and their traditional activities. After lunch, you’ll visit the village of Gunsi and take a walk to New Aurora/Laduani, followed by a boat trip to the Ferulasi rapids. Back in Jaw Jaw, you’ll enjoy a full-length cultural show. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included today.
PART 4
Day 13: Jaw Jaw - Paramaribo
After enjoying the beautiful surroundings, you will return to Paramaribo. Breakfast and lunch are included.
Day 14: Free day in Paramaribo
You are free to spend the day however you like. Breakfast is included.
Day 15: Departure for Zanderij
Make the most of your time in Paramaribo – why not visit some local shops for souvenirs, or relax by the waterfront or by the pool? After midday, the coach will take you to the airport for your overnight flight to the Netherlands. Breakfast is included.
Day 16: Arrival home
You arrive at Schiphol and you’re back home.
