PART 1
Day 1: Paramaribo
Departure from Amsterdam Schiphol Airport to Paramaribo. On arrival, the guide will take you to the Royal Breeze Hotel, where you will stay for the first two nights.
Day 2: Commewijne Tour
The day begins at 9.00 am with departure from Leonsberg/Marine Trap. You will visit the historic 17th-century Fort Nieuw Amsterdam and then sail to the Rust en Werk plantation. Here, you will explore the creek and tour the plantation, depending on the tide. Breakfast and lunch are included.
Day 3: Paramaribo City Tour
This city tour takes you past the capital’s highlights, including Fort Zeelandia, the wooden Basilica, the Jewish synagogue next to the mosque, Independence Square, the wreck of the German ship the Goslar, and the market with its exotic fruit and vegetables. You will stay overnight at the Royal Breeze Hotel. Breakfast and lunch are included.
Day 4: Fredberg
This adventure-filled day is ideal for nature lovers. After a brief preparation, you’ll drive for around four hours along reasonably good roads to the unspoilt jungle. On arrival at base camp, you can go for a swim and have a meal. You’ll then change into your jungle gear and set off on the trek to the summit of Fredberg, a three- to four-hour walk through the jungle. At the summit, you’ll enjoy the stunning views, have a shower and get ready for a special night under the starry sky. All meals are included.
PART 2
Day 5: Fredberg
Set off early to catch a breathtaking sunrise over the jungle. You’ll experience the jungle coming to life with the sounds of howler monkeys and colourful birds such as macaws. After a hearty breakfast, your guide will take you to the other side of the mountain in search of rare orange-cheeked partridges and various species of monkey. Back at base camp, you can relax and enjoy a sumptuous lunch. You can take part in various activities such as fishing, boating or a night-time wildlife spot. The evening often ends around the campfire.
Day 6: Departure for Ping Pe from Fredberg
You can set off again with your guide for more jungle adventure or enjoy a swim and some sunbathing. After lunch, you’ll head to Atjoni, where the dugout canoe will take you to Jungle Resort Pingpe. On the way, you’ll see villages and daily life along the river. On arrival at Jungle Resort Pingpe, you can go for a swim, relax on the island and take a walk through the village to experience local life. In the evening, you’ll learn more about Saramaccan culture and the programme for the following day. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included.
Day 7: Jungle walk and evening trip by dugout canoe
After breakfast, you’ll go on a jungle walk with your guide and learn about plants, animals and local customs. You’ll explore the villagers' fields and discover their way of life. After lunch, you’ll have time to relax and go for a swim. In the evening, you’ll go on a korjaal trip, following the river and enjoying the silence or listening to the wonderful sounds of the jungle under the starry sky, weather permitting. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included.
PART 3
Day 8: Tapawatra Sula & Saramaccan culture
After breakfast, you’ll sail to the village of Asindohopo, home to the Granman on the Pikin Rio. Here, you’ll take a stroll through the village before heading to the stunning Tapawatra Sula, a set of rapids where you can swim and enjoy a natural water massage. You can relax over a picnic lunch on one of the rocks in the rapids. On the way back to the resort, you’ll visit the Djumu health centre with your guide, a central medical post for the local area. In the evening, the locals will invite you to a cultural evening filled with song and dance. An early breakfast, lunch and dinner are included.
Day 9: Visit to a primary school & climbing Ananasberg
Early departure by dugout canoe to the village of Semoisi to visit the local primary school. You will then return to Jungle Resort Pingpe for breakfast. Next, you will travel by dugout canoe to Djumu for a walk to Pineapple Mountain, which offers stunning views of the surrounding area. Back at the resort, you’ll have lunch and the afternoon is yours to spend as you wish. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included.
Day 10: Pingpe Jungle Resort – Paramaribo
After breakfast, you will travel by dugout canoe to Atjoni, a journey of around 2.5 hours. You will enjoy lunch on board the boat or on arrival in Atjoni, before travelling by coach to Paramaribo. Breakfast and lunch are included.
Day 11: Free day in Paramaribo
Enjoy a quiet day to recover from your adventures in the jungle. Breakfast is included.
Day 12: Visit to Peperpot Nature Park
You will visit Peperpot Nature Park, one of Suriname’s oldest protected nature reserves. Here you can enjoy the natural biodiversity, go birdwatching and spot various animal species, such as felines, monkeys and unusual insects. Breakfast and lunch are included.
PART 4
Day 13: To Nieuw-Nickerie
After breakfast, you will set off from Paramaribo for Nieuw-Nickerie in the north-west of Suriname. On the way, you will visit historic sites in the districts of Saramacca and Coronie. You’ll stop in Groningen, where the first Dutch farmers from the province of the same name settled in 1845. You’ll then arrive in Boskamp around 12 noon, a fishing village where you’ll take a short walk and perhaps visit a traditional fish smokehouse. After a light lunch, you’ll travel through Coronie, known for its coconuts, and visit the village of Wageningen. You’ll be staying at the Regency Hotel. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included.
Day 14: Nickerie – Bigi Pan
After breakfast, you’ll visit the market in Nickerie and, if you wish, a rice-processing plant. You’ll then head to the Akira jetty to explore the Bigi Pan wetland area. After lunch, you’ll check in and have the afternoon free for kayaking, canoeing, fishing or simply relaxing. At around 4.30 pm, there’ll be a birdwatching trip to observe the returning birds. In the evening, you can spot caimans. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included.
Day 15: Bigi Pan
You’ll start with a cup of coffee or tea on the balcony at 5.30 am to watch the birds leave their roosts. Breakfast is served after you return from the birdwatching tour. The rest of the day is free for activities or relaxation. There’s another birdwatching trip at around 4.30 pm. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included.
Day 16: Back to Paramaribo
After lunch, you will leave Bigi Pan and return to Paramaribo, where you will arrive at around 6.00 pm. Breakfast and lunch are included.
Day 17: Free day in Paramaribo
You are free to spend the day as you wish. Breakfast is included.
Day 18: Transfer to Zanderij
You’ll have time to enjoy Paramaribo, buy some souvenirs or relax by the pool. In the afternoon, the coach will take you to the airport for your flight to the Netherlands. Breakfast is included.
Day 19: Back home
You’ll be arriving at Schiphol. Welcome home!
