Day 1
From the local Zorg & Hoop airport in Paramaribo you depart for the Kajana airstrip, a journey of approximately 55 minutes south of Paramaribo. On arrival, the lodge staff will guide you to the canoe, which will transport you across the Gran Rio to your holiday destination, the island of Awarradam at the foot of the Awarradam rapids. After checking in and meeting the staff, a delicious lunch is on the program. The afternoon offers an opportunity to explore the resort and relax in the rapids. Here you will quickly experience the resort's eco-friendly approach, with friendly Maroon staff and a jungle lodge built in traditional style. The evenings are chilly, but with the comfort of a mosquito net, air conditioning is unnecessary. Lighting is done with solar energy, and the meals are prepared on wood fire with Surinamese ingredients. In the afternoon we will visit the beautiful rapids "Peti", where you can enjoy a water massage and learn the unique information about the area.
Day 2
Early in the morning we quietly float down the river with the boat to experience the awakening of the jungle. After breakfast, an educational and adventurous jungle walk is on the program, during which the guide will explain about trees, plants and how to recognize animals by their sounds and tracks. After lunch we will visit the "Peti" rapids again, where you can spend the afternoon swimming, paddling and enjoying the beautiful view from a hammock. After dinner, the guide will provide you with more information about the unique flora and fauna of the Amazon rainforest.
Day 3
Before sunrise we walk through primary rainforest to the riverbank and sail upstream. With the canoe's engine turned off, we drifted with the current, enjoying the jungle sounds and fauna. Back at the resort for breakfast, you have the morning until lunch to explore the lodge and nearby rapids or relax in the island's traditional Jungle Spa. After lunch we visit the local community for an introduction to the local culture. During the boat trip you will see daily life along the river, from fishing to washing. A walk past various villages gives a good idea of the Maroon village livelihood, and at sunset we sail back to Awarradam.
Day 4
In the early morning we float down the river again by boat to experience the awakening of the jungle in complete silence. After breakfast you have the opportunity to paddle again, swim or simply enjoy the sounds of the jungle. Before departure, the staff will say goodbye to you in a traditional manner, and a canoe will take you back to Kajana. From there you fly back to Paramaribo.
