PART 1

Day 1: Arrival in Paramaribo

You will fly to Suriname from Schiphol. Upon arrival at J.A. Pengel Airport, you will be met by our staff. You will then travel for approximately 80 minutes to your hotel, Queens Kleine Waterstraat in Paramaribo.

Day 2: History by Land and Water and City Tour

You’ll explore the Suriname and Commewijne rivers on a simple tented boat. You’ll visit the Rust en Werk plantation, the Margaretha plantation and the open-air museum. At the confluence of the two rivers, you may spot dolphins. After lunch, you’ll take a city tour of Paramaribo’s highlights, including Fort Zeelandia, the wooden Basilica, the Jewish synagogue next to the mosque, Independence Square, the wreck of the German ship the Goslar, and the market selling exotic fruit and vegetables. Overnight stay in Paramaribo, with breakfast and lunch included.

Day 3: Paramaribo to Jungle Resort Pingpe

You will be collected from your hotel between 8.00 and 8.30 am. You will travel by bus for approximately 2.5 hours to the small korjaal harbour of Atjoni, passing through areas showcasing the colourful Surinamese culture and small villages inhabited by indigenous people and Creoles. After a lunch break in Atjoni, you’ll board a dugout canoe for a 3½-hour trip along the beautiful Upper Suriname River to Pingpe. During this trip, you’ll see villages along the river and get a glimpse of the daily lives of the local people. On arrival at Jungle Resort Pingpe, you can swim in the river or relax on the island. Later, you’ll take a walk through the village of Pingpe to meet the locals and learn more about their lives and culture. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

Day 4: Jungle walk and evening trip by dugout canoe

After breakfast, you’ll go on a guided jungle walk through the woods and fields belonging to the villagers. The guide will tell you about the plants, trees, animals and jungle customs. After the walk, you’ll enjoy lunch at the resort and have the chance to swim in the river. In the evening, you’ll go on a korjaal trip to experience the silence of the jungle, the sounds and the starry sky. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

Day 5: Tapawatra Sula and Saramaccan culture

After breakfast, you’ll travel by boat to the village of Asindohopo on the Pikin Rio, home to the Granman people. You’ll take a stroll through the village and head to the beautiful Tapawatra Sula for a swim and a natural massage. On the way back, you’ll visit the Djumu health centre and, in the evening, enjoy some local culture with singing and dancing. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

Day 6: Primary school and a climb up Ananasberg

Early in the morning, you’ll travel by boat to the village of Semoisi to visit the primary school. You’ll then return to Jungle Resort Pingpe for breakfast. Afterwards, you’ll travel by dugout canoe to Djumu for a walk to Pineapple Mountain, which offers stunning views. After the walk, you’ll return to the resort for lunch and some free time. PART 2

Day 7: Pingpe Jungle Resort – Paramaribo

After breakfast, you’ll set off by dugout canoe to Atjoni, a journey downstream of around 2.5 hours. During the boat trip or in Atjoni itself, you can enjoy a tasty lunch before transferring to the coach. After a coach journey of around 2 hours, you’ll reach Paramaribo. Breakfast and lunch are included today.

Day 8: Pepperpot

After breakfast, you’ll set off for Plantage de Peperpot for a guided tour of the nature reserve. This former plantation is home to a wide variety of birds and plants. You’ll spend the night at the hotel in Paramaribo again. Breakfast and lunch are included today.

Day 9: Free day in Paramaribo

You have a day off to explore Paramaribo at your leisure. Breakfast is included.

Day 10: Departure to the west of Suriname

After breakfast, you will travel from Paramaribo to Nieuw-Nickerie in the north-west of Suriname. On the way, you will visit historic sites in the districts of Saramacca and Coronie. You’ll make a short stop in the village of Groningen, where the first Dutch farmers settled in 1845. Around 12 noon, you’ll reach the fishing village of Boskamp, where you’ll go for a walk and perhaps visit a traditional fish smokehouse. After a light lunch, you’ll continue your journey past Coronie, known for its coconuts and parwa honey. You’ll spend the night in a good hotel in Nickerie and visit the seafront in the evening, where there’s a beautiful temple. Weather permitting, you’ll enjoy a stunning sunset. Day 11: Nickerie - Bigi Pan

After breakfast, you’ll visit the market in Nickerie. You’ll then explore Nickerie and, around midday, you’ll arrive at the Akira jetty. You’ll sail into the Pan, have lunch there and check into your room. At around 4.30 pm, you’ll go on a bird-watching trip to see the birds flying back to their roosts – an enchanting spectacle in which thousands of birds colour the sky. PART 3

Day 12: Bigi Pan to Apoera

After a lovely night’s stay, we’ll sail into the Pan before breakfast to watch the birds take flight. After lunch, you’ll leave the Bigi Pan nature reserve and we’ll sail back to Akira’s jetty. From there, a speedboat will take you via the Corantijn River to Apoera, where you’ll spend the night in a guesthouse with shared showers and toilets. You’ll also visit the indigenous villages of the Trio and Arawak peoples. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included.

Day 13: Blanche Marie

Today we’ll sail to Blanche Marie and may stop off at the 'nowhere to nowhere' railway line. The second leg of the journey will then take you through the jungle to Blanche Marie, where you’ll spend the night in lodges with shared showers and toilets. You’ll go for a walk along the river and learn some interesting facts about biodiversity. At the waterfalls, you can relax and enjoy massages in natural hot tubs. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included.

Day 14: Blanche Marie

Today you’ll enjoy the surroundings of Blanche Marie with lovely walks and, if possible, the rapids. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included.

Day 15: From Blanche Marie to Fungu Island

After breakfast, we’ll sail to Witigron, where korjals will take you to Fungu Island. On arrival, you’ll meet the manager and check into your accommodation at Gonini Lodge, a simple lodge with two people per room and basic shower and toilet facilities. In the afternoon, you can swim in the river or relax after this adventurous trip. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included.

Day 16: Voltzberg

After breakfast, we’ll get ready for the trek to the Voltzberg. This fascinating and impressive trek offers plenty of opportunities to spot animals such as monkeys, birds and wild boar. The highlight is the climb to the summit at an altitude of 240 metres, offering stunning views over the tropical rainforest. To cool off, we’ll stop at the Ajoemara Falls. The trek takes three hours there, including the climb, and three hours back. For those who find this too strenuous, there’s an alternative: a leisurely walk on Fungu Island and/or a swim in the river. After dinner, you can enjoy some socialising. PART 4

Day 17: Mother’s Falls

After breakfast, we’ll take a boat trip to the breathtaking Moedervallen. After lunch, you’ll have the afternoon free to do as you please – whether that’s swimming, fishing, sunbathing, lying in a hammock or simply relaxing. At around 6.00 pm, we’ll walk together to the airport, where you can spot various species of birds whilst enjoying the sunset. After dinner, you can enjoy some socialising and, if you wish, attend a cultural show featuring song and dance by the local Raleigh Boys. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included today.

Day 18: From Raleigh Falls to Paramaribo

After breakfast, we’ll take a long but beautiful boat trip past rapids and sandbanks to Witagron, where we’ll have lunch. We’ll then continue our journey to our accommodation in Paramaribo. Breakfast and lunch are included today.

Day 19: Free day in Paramaribo

A day to relax after a few days of adventure. You can have a lie-in, explore the city or do whatever takes your fancy. Breakfast is included today.

Day 20: Departure for Schiphol

You still have a few hours to enjoy what Paramaribo has to offer, such as buying souvenirs or relaxing by the waterfront. After midday, the coach will take you to the airport to check in for your overnight flight to the Netherlands. Breakfast is included.

Day 21: Arrival in the Netherlands

Welcome home.
