After lunch, we set off for Paramaribo, stopping at places such as Wageningen and Coronie along the way. We return to Paramaribo around 6.00 pm, having gained a wealth of experiences. Breakfast and lunch are included.Day 6: Evening tour of Fredberg After a brief discussion of the programme and a cup of coffee or tea, it’s time to set off. You’ll get into the car and head for the unspoilt jungle; depending on the number of stops along the way, the journey will take around 4 hours. You’ll first arrive at base camp, where you’ll have time for a quick swim and a bite to eat. Put on your jungle gear, because it’s time to conquer Fredberg. You’ll hike for about 3 to 4 hours through the unspoilt jungle before reaching the summit. It’s a trek that anyone of average fitness can manage. Once at the top of the mountain, it’s pure enjoyment. The view is stunning, and with a shower and kitchen, all the necessary facilities for a good night’s sleep are on hand. Enjoy the sunset and the starry sky in this special spot before you go to sleep.Day 7: A beautiful sunrise and sleeping in a cave Get out of your hammock early today to witness one of the most beautiful sunrises in Suriname. From above, you’ll see the jungle ‘wake up’, as it were, with the sound of howler monkeys and beautiful birds such as macaws flying past. The cook will prepare a hearty breakfast to ensure you start the day with plenty of energy. Today you’ll explore the jungle even further and sleep in a truly back-to-basics style in caves in the jungle behind the Fredberg. The guide will take you via the other side of the mountain towards the rare orange rock cocks, and you might even spot various species of monkey along the way. You’ll learn about different plant species and how to survive in the jungle. You’ll sleep in a makeshift camp in your hammock inside a cave. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included.
PART 3
Day 8: Back to base camp After an exciting night, it’s time for another short walk through the jungle. After the jungle trek, you’ll return to base camp, where it’s time to relax. A hearty lunch awaits, complete with ice-cold drinks. Tonight you’ll sleep in a comfortable bed and won’t need your hammock any more. You can go fishing, boating and, at high water, you can even dive into the water on a proper Tarzan swing. In the evening, you’ll head out again with a guide to spot nocturnal animals. Evenings often end around the campfire.Day 9: Back to Paramaribo If you haven’t had enough of the jungle yet, you can head out again with your guide to see more animals. If you’d rather just enjoy a swim and some sunbathing on the last day, there’s certainly time for that. After lunch, it’s time to pack your things and drive back towards Paramaribo.Day 10: Palumeu From Zorg en Hoop Airport, we’ll fly for about 75 minutes to the airstrip near the indigenous village of Palumeu. On arrival, we’ll be met by the local staff. Deep in the south of Suriname, a special experience awaits us. Jungle Lodge Palumeu, situated in the homeland of the Trio and Wajana indigenous peoples, is over an hour’s flight from Paramaribo. Here, we’ll meet the original inhabitants of the Amazon rainforest and learn about their harmonious way of life in harmony with nature. The comfortable jungle lodges offer stunning views of the river. Fascinating boat trips and walks through the unique Amazon rainforest round off this experience. After dinner, we discuss the programme for the following day and gain a deeper insight into the village’s inhabitants. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included.
