Program
Day 1
In the morning, you leave Paramaribo heading west. From Nieuw-Nickerie, you transfer to the boat that takes you into the vast swampland of Bigi Pan. On arrival, you will settle into the simple lodge where you will spend the night in a hammock in the middle of the water. The afternoon is free to relax, birdwatch or simply enjoy the peace and quiet. At the end of the day, you will take a sunset tour where Bigi Pan comes alive in beautiful evening light.
Day 2
After breakfast, leave Bigi Pan by boat and continue towards Maratakka. You will see nature change from open swamps to green forest strips along the way. In the afternoon, you will arrive in Maratakka, meet the local community and settle into the simple lodge with hammocks.
Day 3
’In the morning, you will take a boat trip through the quiet creeks of Maratakka, where you can spot birds, monkeys and other animals. In the afternoon, follow a guided forest walk where you will learn more about the plants, trees and life in the forest.
Day 4
The morning is free to relax, enjoy the scenery or quietly pack your belongings. After lunch, you will depart back towards Paramaribo.
