Overview

Ston Island is a peninsula on the right bank of the reservoir. From here you can enjoy breathtaking views over the vast lake, with striking treetops rising above the water. It is an ideal place for canoeing, swimming, fishing or simply relaxing. You can also take a relaxing trip with a canoe across the reservoir. As part of the tour to Ston Island you will also visit Brownsberg, a paradise to experience the rich diversity of flora and fauna of the Surinamese rainforest. At the top of the mountain you will enjoy breathtaking panoramic views, overlooking the Van Blommenstein Reservoir while being welcomed by the loud roar of monkeys in the area.

Brownsberg, Ston Island, Reservoir

Program

Day 1
After leaving the city towards Brownsberg in the Brokopondo district, we make a stop at Paranam, the Bauxite refinery, after about an hour's drive. During this break you will enjoy delicious coffee or tea and a tasty snack, while we inform you about the history of bauxite in Suriname since the early 1900s. Upon arrival at the plateau at the top of the mountain (± 500m) you can enjoy Enjoy fresh fruit and a refreshing drink and experience the beautiful view that Brownsberg offers, including the Van Blommenstein Reservoir in the distance. Our experienced guide will then take you on a fascinating forest walk to the enchanting waterfalls in the interior of Suriname. Many choose to relax and cool off under the falls. Then we climb back to the Brownsberg plateau for a tasty lunch. In the late afternoon we leave for Ston Island, a peninsula on the reservoir, where simple houses with beds and mosquito nets are ready for overnight accommodation. In the evening we enjoy a delicious meal under a beautiful starry sky.
Day 2
You will be woken up by the impressive roar of howler monkeys and the cheerful whistling of various bird species, in the middle of nature. Between 6:00 AM and 6:30 AM you can enjoy a beautiful sunrise. After breakfast there is time for fishing, swimming or just relaxing. You can also go kayaking or canoeing on the reservoir on your own. After lunch we leave for Paramaribo, where we arrive around 6 p.m.
