Overview

During our visit to the Maratakka River, we have a chance to see manatees and giant otters. Due to the many Mauritius palms along the river, we can also spot the blue yellow macaw. Close to our camp, the Maratakka River connects to the Nickerie River. This river is the perfect place to look for the giant toucan.

Program

Day 1
Around 8am, we will depart from Paramaribo towards Wageningen in the Nickerie district. We will use a taxi which is standard during this trip. Should it be desired, we can always stop at certain locations. For example, there is a nice viewpoint and also a place to spot the scarlet ibis! Around lunchtime, we will arrive in the village of Wageningen. Here, our guide will be waiting for us. He is a true local and knows the whole area like the back of his hand! We will eat a nice lunch first and then there will be room to go for a sail! We will return for dinner and the evening can be filled to your liking. We can go for an evening walk, another piece of boating or maybe just enjoy a campfire.
Day 2
We can cruise on both the Maratakka River aIs the Nickerie River. We can, for example, cruise early in the morning when the jungle is just waking up (this gives us the best chance of seeing the giant toucan!), or just at the end of the day to see the last birds in the sunlight and the nocturnal animals waking up. During the cruises, we will look for manatees, giant otters and there is even a chance of seeing the giant toucan on the Nickerie River. There is also a hunter's trail nearby. We can explore this path in the evening and look for nocturnal animals such as frogs and snakes.
Day 3
On the last day, we will leave for the city after lunch. Here we will arrive approximately between 17:00 and 18:00.
