Program

Day 1
At about three hours drive from Paramaribo lies Atjoni, where the roads end. From Atjoni it is about three hours sailing to Apiapaati (depending on the water level it can take longer). After arrival you will have the opportunity to explore the island while a delicious meal is being prepared. On the island there is also space to hammock, eat well and fish. Swimming in the river between the currents is a favorite of most
Day 2
After breakfast you will leave by boat with an experienced guide to Djumu, where there is a medical post. Then you will sail on to make a jungle trek and you will end up at the Pineapple Mountain. Here you can enjoy a great view over the jungle and you can eat a delicious pineapple (season September) For cooling down we will visit the Tapawatra waterfalls. There we will have lunch and spend the afternoon relaxing. In the evening you can be taken by the guide to spot animals, such as tarantulas, snakes and caimans. When it is dark, the sounds of the animals are overwhelming to hear
Day 3
A village walk is a must, where the Saramacan culture becomes visible. After breakfast, you will leave by boat with an experienced guide to the Saramacan village of Gran Slee, on the other side of Apiapaati. This is where the village walk starts and you will pass the largest sacred tree in this village. During the walk, you will receive an explanation about the tree. Then you will visit more villages on foot and you will receive an explanation about the customs of these villages and the Saramacan culture. After the village walk, you will continue by boat to the Gran Dan (about 30 minutes by boat). There we will have lunch and spend the afternoon. On the strong current, we will go rafting with an airhead under the guidance of an experienced guide. On the instructions of the guide, you can also jump into the water with a life jacket. All this depends on the water level. At the campfire, it is possible to enjoy this special day and with a clear sky under a beautiful starry sky.
Day 4
This is the last morning you wake up at Apiapaati. Before you say goodbye to this wonderful place that feels so special, a delicious breakfast is waiting for you. Today you pack your bags to make the return trip to Paramaribo. Lunch is provided along the way.
