We cross the Suriname River with the tent boat / canoe to Meerzorg. That is where the bike tour starts, which partly goes over sandy roads. The first part is about the new road that was built by the arrival of the bridge over the Suriname River. We cycle towards the bridge and a few meters before the bridge we take a dirt road towards the Peperpot plantation. Along the way we pass houses of mainly Javanese and Hindustani. Closer to the plantation are old coffee and cocoa trees. Having arrived at the Peperpot plantation, it is possible to view the site of the old factory. On the way back we cycle through the residential area to our lunch in Meerzorg. After lunch we cycle to the boat for the crossing back to Paramaribo. A bike ride to the Peperpot plantation is a wonderful mix of history and nature and a pleasant welcoming encounter with the Javanese resident.
