Jodensavanne Boat trip - 1 Day

JodenSavanna, the first Jewish settlement in Suriname, has a lot to offer in addition to a fascinating history in terms of flora and fauna. We sail from Paramaribo along the Suriname River towards Joden Savanna and pass some deserted plantations and seaside resorts along the way.

Day 1

We sail past the historic part of Paramaribo, the Waterkant, the Centrale Markt, the Nieuwe Haven and a little further on the Staatsolie refinery. Our first stop is Domburg (citrus plantation). There is a cozy little market on Domburg at the dock, where you can buy fruit and other Surinamese delicacies. After this we will sail past Laarwijk - also a citrus plantation - and other plantations such as Waterland and Accaribo, Paranam (our bauxite harbor), Groot Chatillion, Klaverblad, etc., to dock at the seaside town of Overbridge at noon. We can stretch our legs there, have a drink and immediately place our order for lunch (hot meal).

After this short break we sail past some villages on the Suriname River in the direction of Joden Savanna. Jews Savanna is the first Jewish settlement in Suriname and dates from the 17th century. The ruins of the synagogue are still clearly visible and a visit to the nearby healing spring is definitely worth it. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee that you will look 20 years younger after a few sips of spring water! Around two o'clock in the afternoon we are back at Overbridge, where we will have lunch. After lunch you can swim and / or take a walk along the beach. At the end of the afternoon we return to Paramaribo.
