Overview

Ston Island is a peninsula, located on the right bank of the reservoir. You have a breathtaking view of "the lake" with characteristic tree tops that protrude above the water. Ston Island is the ultimate place for canoeing, swimming, fishing or relaxing. It is also possible to make a trip with the canoe on the reservoir. As part of the tour to Ston Island you will visit the Brownsberg. Brownsberg is the ideal place if you want to enjoy the entire range of flora and fauna that the Surinamese rainforest has to offer. On the mountain you enjoy a stunning view of the surroundings. You look down on the Van Blommenstein Reservoir and you can hear the monkeys roaring loudly in the area.

Itinerary

Day 1 :

After leaving the city towards Brownsberg in the Brokopondo district, we make a stop at Paranam (the Bauxite refinery) after about an hour's drive. During this break you will be spoiled with delicious coffee or tea and a delicious snack. We immediately take the opportunity to give you some information about the bauxite happening in Suriname since the early 1900s. Upon arrival at the plateau at the top of the mountain (± 500m), you can enjoy some fruit and a cooling drink. experience the magnificent view that Brownsberg offers of, among other things, the Van Blommenstein Reservoir. After this, our experienced guide will take you on an interesting forest walk in the interior of Suriname to the idyllic waterfalls below. Many participants of our Brownsberg trip choose to seek a welcome refreshment by going under the falls. Then you will go uphill back to the Brownsberg plateau to enjoy a hot lunch. In the late afternoon you will leave for Ston Island, a peninsula on the reservoir, where we will spend the night in simple houses with beds and mosquito nets. In the evening we first have the evening meal and we can enjoy a beautiful starry sky.

Day 2 :

You will wake up in the middle of nature to the roar of the howler monkeys, not to mention the chirping of the different bird species. Between 06:00 and 06:30 you can enjoy a beautiful sunrise. After breakfast you can fish, swim and/or relax. On your own you can kayak or canoe on the reservoir. After lunch we leave for Paramaribo where we will be back around 6 pm.
